Under University policy, in compliance with the Federal Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA), eligible employees are provided up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave for certain family and medical reasons.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, “FMLA is designed to help employees balance their work and family responsibilities by allowing them to take reasonable unpaid leave for certain family and medical reasons. It also seeks to accommodate the legitimate interests of employers and promote equal employment opportunity for men and women.”
If you need to take time off work to care for yourself or a family member, you should request Family Medical Leave by e-mailing debordkl5@storesoo.com calling 308-865-8404, or visiting URN A309.
For the duration of approved family/medical leave, the University will maintain the employee's health coverage under any University-sponsored group health plan.
Upon return from family/medical leave an employee will return to the same employment status as if the employee had been continuously employed. As such, employees will usually be restored to their original or equivalent positions with equivalent pay, benefits, and other employment items.
The use of approved family/medical leave will not result in the loss of any employment benefit that accrued prior to the start of an employee's leave.
To remain in paid status, you will use your leave accruals (sick, vacation, crisis leave, etc.)
